Hi Loves!
Thanksgiving is next week! We all love the holiday season here at JBD and a lot of it has to do with the yummy foods and desserts this time of year...
It's so hard to resist over indulging in all the holiday food and falling off track from our health goals is too easy. So we wanted to just hop on to share some great tips to help you stay healthy through the holidays.
P.S. keep scrolling to the end to find out what holiday special we are currently running ;)
-----------
Eat Mindfully
After filling your plate with all your favorite's sit back and take a moment to think about how grateful you are to be eating such a wonderful meal. Allow yourself to enjoy your favorite foods, pay attention to taste, aroma and texture. When we shift attention off of food it's easy to not realize that you actually are full. You'll be less likely to over eat when you are paying attention to your body telling you it's full.
Choose Healthy Substitutes
With a few simple tweaks you can still indulge in your favorite holiday foods with out feeling so guilty. For instance. For instance, replace sour cream with greek yogurt in your favorite holiday recipes. Trade mashed potato with mashed sweet potato. And swap heavy dips like blue cheese dip and spinach and artichoke dip with these healthy bean-based dips and homemade hummus. In addition, choose broth-based soups over heavy, cream-based ones. And opt for lighter cheeses like cottage cheese, soft goat cheese and feta cheese instead of calorie-dense blue cheese, cream cheese or reduced-fat cheddar cheese. Additionally, load up on roasted veggies and lightly-dressed salads before reaching for the ham and casserole and carb heavy foods.
Stay Hydrated
We've said it before and we will say it again, water is the best thing you can do for your body. Drink water as much as you can throughout the day. Limit your intake of high-calorie drinks like eggnog, martinis and margaritas. If you're consuming alcoholic beverages over the holidays, try alternating with glasses of water in between your cocktails. Your body will thank you the next morning!
Get To The Gym
This is especially important if you want to balance out extra indulging with staying on track. We know it's hard to make time for the gym this time of year but in order to stay motived this is so important. Block out time in your schedule and mark it on your calendar and treat it as you would all your other responsibilities. This way it's a priority to get there. We promise even a 30 minute cardio session will make all the difference!
Boost Your Immune System
Nobody wants to be sick around the holidays, eating a variety of colorful fruit and vegetables is one of the best things you can do to boost up your immune system. Add in a multi vitamin and extra vitamin C to your diet to really give yourself that extra boost and energy.
